Tuesday, March 22nd at 7:30pm in 119 Osmond: Dr. Jennifer Chambers, Senior Vice President and Chief Medical Officer of Capital Blue Cross is coming to speak to Panhellenic women. She is going to discuss her career path and the obstacles and triumphs she’s experienced on the road to becoming an influential leader in her company. She has both her medical degree and MBA from Penn State and directed the Palliative Medicine Program at Penn State Milton S. Hershey Medical Center. Central Penn Business Journal named her one of 2014’s Women of Influence.
Wednesday, March 23rd, The Empowerment Project, 6:30, 7:45, 9pm 112 Chambers Building: Another event for Panhellenic members is the showing of the film The Empowerment Project. A description of the film from its website reads: “The Empowerment Project is the incredible journey of a crew of female filmmakers driving across America to encourage, empower, and inspire the next generation of strong women to go after their career ambitions. Driving over 7,000 miles from Los Angeles to New York over the course of 30 days, the documentary spotlights 17 positive and powerful women leaders across a variety of lifestyles and industries. In celebration of the all-female focus in front of and behind the camera, the filmmakers turned the cameras on themselves, capturing their transformational journey. The film challenges the audience to ask themselves, ‘What would you do if you weren’t afraid to fail?'”
The events on Tuesday and Wednesday are expected to be at capacity with attendees from sorority chapters.
Thursday, March 24th, Career Panel HUB Flex Theatre, 6:30pm: The final event to wrap up Women’s Empowerment Week is all new for this year. Professionals from around the country are coming to meet, network and inspire the women of Penn State. The event will begin by attendees meeting in the new Flex Theatre in the Hub to learn about the evening and decide which breakout session they’d like to attend. Next, the women will split up into three interest areas: Business, Education and Science/Technology. Each breakout session will consist of a panel of professionals who will describe their own career paths followed by a Q&A session. Panelists include: VP Global Operations of Cisco Systems, a Partner at PriceWaterhouse Coopers, an Elementary school teacher and principal, and a Lt. Colonel of the Marine Corps turned entrepreneur, to name a few. This brand new event will be a unique opportunity for women to hear about diverse career and educational paths while also allowing them a safe place to ask questions without fear of being judged for their gender. The event will also allow students to make connections with professionals in a more personal setting than a career fair. I encourage female students from any major, organization and year to attend!
